Join AFP St. Louis for a full day of learning and dialogue about the basics of fundraising. Designed for those new to the fundraising and nonprofit management professions, this interactive seminar offers an overview of a range of topics in fundraising, development, and management including the nature of nonprofits, prospect research and management, annual giving strategies, donor cultivation and stewardship, budgeting and goal setting, special events, and more. Fundraising 101 will be facilitated by two advanced professionals with a combined 40 years of experience in the field.

Meet the facilitators: 

Yvette LeGear Hartsfield, CAP, CFRE
Managing Director of Development
Missouri Historical Society

Yvette LeGear Hartsfield, CAP, CFRE, is Managing Director of Development for the Missouri Historical Society (MHS), responsible for overseeing initiatives that promote fundraising, membership, and philanthropy for the institution. Prior to joining MHS in 2015, she served as chief development officer and executive director for St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation and vice president of development for Lutheran Family Children Services. She has worked in the St. Louis nonprofit arena for 25 years.

Driven by her commitment to bettering St. Louis, Yvette serves on the AFP St. Louis Board of Directors as Vice President for External Relations. She is also a co-founder of Launch St. Louis, a nonprofit dedicated to creating young leaders for a stronger charitable community.

Yvette received a BA in marketing and management from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an EM (executive master’s) degree in philanthropic studies from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. She obtained certified fundraising executive (CFRE) certification in 1999 and became a chartered advisor in philanthropy (CAP) in 2017.

Jim Schallom, MPPA, CFRE, is Director of Resource Development for Sherwood Forest where he is responsible for major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, community relations, volunteer engagement, planned giving, and board development. He provides staff leadership to the organization’s first-ever capital and endowment campaign – Way More Than Camp. Prior roles have included Director of Development for Missouri and Indiana at College Summit and Membership Director for the Saint Louis Science Center.

Jim has served on the AFP St. Louis Board of Directors for six years and is currently Chapter President. He also co-leads the Alumni Affinity Group for the NPML Program at UMSL. He holds a BA in Education and Certificate in Business Administration from Saint Louis University and a Masters of Public Policy Administration and Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Jim earned designation as a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2014 and was recognized by AFP St. Louis as Outstanding Young Professional at National Philanthropy Day in 2015.
